Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z: Features Explained

The rider aids, connectivity and other features make the NS400Z the most feature-rich Bajaj bike ever

Bajaj Auto launched the biggest capacity Pulsar bike yet, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z last week. The 400cc streetfighter gets its styling from the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and the engine and the platform from the Bajaj Dominar 400. Here’s what makes it the most feature-rich bike in Bajaj’s lineup yet:

Rider Aids

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z gets several rider aids like dual-channel ABS, assist and slipper clutch and ride-by-wire technology with 4 ride modes: Road, Rain, Sport and Off-Road. Here’s how the riding modes differ from each other in terms of their functionalities: 

- Road: Smooth acceleration for an optimum mix of performance and mileage, medium level of ABS intervention

- Rain: Limited power output, highest level of ABS intervention for maximum safety

- Sport: Maximum power output with peppy acceleration for sporty riding, lowest level of ABS intervention

- Off-Road: Better low-end torque compared to other modes, lowest level of ABS intervention

The 400cc streetfighter gets switchable traction control and can only be switched off in Sport and Off-Road mode. It also gets 5-step adjustable brake and clutch levers, allowing riders to adjust the positioning of the levers according to the sizes of their hands.

Instrument Console and Other Features

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z gets an LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation, music control, call and SMS alerts, and a lap timer. The console has a dot matrix inset where the navigation arrows appear. The console shows the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, phone battery, signal level, gear position indicator, ride modes, clock, side stand indicator and traction control readouts. 

It also gets 4-way switches on the left switchgear to navigate through the menus in the instrument console and control the screen’s brightness, play/pause songs, control music volume and other functionalities. Also, the up and down switches could be assigned to open up a particular section of the menu as a shortcut. For example, you can assign one of those two switches to open the Ride Mode menu directly when pressed instead of having to go through different sections of the menu to change the ride modes. 

Other features of the NS400Z include all-LED lighting with an LED projector headlight and LED DRLs, hazard lights and a USB charging port. All in all, Bajaj has done a phenomenal job in offering all these features, that too in a 40PS bike that costs just Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
